Destination: Antwerp, Belgium
Hotel: Crowne Plaza Antwerp
Trip: Weekend getaway with Signature Dreams Events
Stay Style: Contemporary city hotel
Best For: Weekend breaks, couples, group travel, business trips and exploring Antwerp
My Travel Style: Comfortable, relaxed and experience-led
Where you stay can shape an entire city break. For my weekend in Antwerp, Crowne Plaza became the base from which the rest of the experience unfolded.
After travelling to Belgium with Signature Dreams Events, our home for the weekend was Crowne Plaza Antwerp.
For me, choosing or experiencing a good city hotel isn’t necessarily about spending every moment inside it. It’s about having somewhere comfortable and welcoming to return to after hours of exploring, eating, shopping and making the most of the destination.
Crowne Plaza Antwerp served that purpose well.
With contemporary surroundings, plenty of space to unwind and several of our weekend experiences taking place within the hotel itself, it became far more than somewhere to simply leave my suitcase.
Here’s a closer look at my stay.
Arriving at Crowne Plaza Antwerp
First impressions matter, particularly after a long journey.
Arriving at Crowne Plaza offered an opportunity to settle into the weekend, get acquainted with our surroundings and prepare for everything Signature Dreams Events had planned for the trip.

The hotel has the polished feel you would expect from an established international hotel brand, while still maintaining the relaxed atmosphere I appreciate when travelling for leisure. Rather than feeling overly formal, it felt functional, contemporary and comfortable—exactly what I wanted from a base for a busy weekend.

My Room
One of my favourite moments of any hotel stay is opening the room door for the first time.
After travelling, there’s something satisfying about finally putting your bags down, taking in your surroundings and knowing that this will be your own little space for the next few days.
My room at Crowne Plaza provided a comfortable place to recharge between our activities in Antwerp.

When I’m reviewing a hotel, I increasingly pay attention to the things that actually affect the experience rather than simply how photogenic a room looks.
Is there enough space?
Can I properly relax?
Does the room feel clean and well maintained?
Can I get ready comfortably?
And, perhaps most importantly after a full day exploring a city, am I looking forward to coming back to it?
These are the details that determine whether a hotel works for me.
Crowne Plaza gave me the practical comfort I needed while allowing the destination itself to remain the star of the weekend.
A Hotel That Became Part of the Trip
What made this particular stay interesting was that Crowne Plaza wasn’t simply our accommodation.
Parts of the Signature Dreams Events itinerary also took place within the hotel, meaning we experienced different sides of the property throughout the weekend.
Instead of checking in, sleeping and immediately heading back out each morning, we had opportunities to dine, socialise and enjoy organised experiences without leaving the hotel.
That added another dimension to the stay.
Later in this series, I’ll be sharing more about our dining experiences as well as the Dinner & Dance hosted at Crowne Plaza, where the setting was transformed with sunset-inspired table décor for an evening of food, music and celebration.
Having those experiences under the same roof made the hotel an integral part of the wider Belgium itinerary.
Time to Switch Off
City breaks can become surprisingly tiring.
You leave home imagining leisurely coffees and picturesque walks, then somehow find yourself several thousand steps into the day with a camera roll full of photographs and a growing list of places you still want to see.
That’s part of the fun.
But it’s also why I value having somewhere comfortable to return to.
During this trip, I wanted to experience Antwerp properly while still allowing myself time to switch off.
There is a particular pleasure in returning to your hotel after exploring, taking your shoes off, getting comfortable and doing absolutely nothing for a while.
For me, those quieter moments are part of travelling too.

Using Crowne Plaza as a Base for Antwerp
A city hotel ultimately needs to work in partnership with the destination.
I don’t travel somewhere new to spend the entire weekend inside my room. I want to get out, see the streets, experience the food, observe the culture and discover what gives a place its personality.
As I shared in Chapter Two of Slaycation Diaries, Antwerp was particularly enjoyable to explore because of the contrast between its historic architecture and contemporary fashion, shopping and food scene.
Crowne Plaza gave us a comfortable base to return to between those experiences.
And sometimes that’s exactly what you need from a hotel.
Not somewhere competing with the destination but somewhere that makes experiencing it easier.
The Importance of the Details
As I’ve travelled more, I’ve realised that my relationship with hotels has changed.
I’m less interested in something simply looking luxurious and much more interested in how a place makes the overall trip feel.
True comfort can be remarkably simple.
A room where you can genuinely rest.
Enough space to organise yourself.
A pleasant environment.
Good hospitality.
Somewhere you feel comfortable returning to at the end of the day.
Those details may not always produce the most dramatic photograph, but they’re often what determine whether you’d choose to stay somewhere again.
It’s one of the reasons my hotel reviews throughout Slaycation Diaries will always look beyond aesthetics.
A beautiful lobby can catch my attention.
The experience is what earns my recommendation.
Who Would I Recommend Crowne Plaza Antwerp For?
Based on my stay, I can see Crowne Plaza Antwerp appealing particularly to travellers who want the familiarity and convenience of an established hotel while exploring the city.
It could work well for a weekend break, a group trip similar to ours, a couple’s getaway or travellers combining leisure with business.
For me, its greatest strength during this particular trip was versatility.
My Verdict
Would I stay at Crowne Plaza Antwerp again?
Yes.
My experience wasn’t about extravagant excess, nor does it need to be presented that way.
What I had was a comfortable and enjoyable stay that gave me what I needed from a weekend city hotel: somewhere pleasant to recharge while I made the most of being in Belgium.
And I think there is real value in being able to say that.
Travel reviews should help people make informed decisions. That means recognising that sometimes the best recommendation isn’t based on a hotel being the most spectacular place you’ve ever stayed.
Sometimes it’s because it simply does its job well.
Crowne Plaza Antwerp was a comfortable base for my Belgium getaway and a hotel I was happy to return to after exploring the city.
For this trip, that worked perfectly.
From My Suitcase
This stay reminded me that luxury doesn’t always have to announce itself.
Sometimes luxury is simply convenience.
It’s having somewhere comfortable to return to after a long day. It’s being able to slow down between plans.
It’s enjoying your surroundings without feeling that every second of the itinerary needs to be filled.
I’ve become much more intentional about appreciating those moments when I travel.
Seeing more is wonderful.
But enjoying where you are matters just as much.

Afternoon Tea at ANNA Living & Bar: Taking Time to Indulge in Antwerp
A great hotel doesn’t need to become the entire story of a trip.
Sometimes its role is to provide the setting from which the story can happen.
For my weekend in Belgium, Crowne Plaza Antwerp did exactly that.
It gave me somewhere to arrive, reset, get ready and return to while Antwerp provided the adventure outside and with more of our experiences taking place inside the hotel, there is still plenty more to share.
Next, we’re heading downstairs for something a little more indulgent.
