Ouzoud Waterfalls in Morocco was the latter.
I had seen the photos. I had watched the travel reels. But nothing and I mean nothing prepares you for standing in front of one of the tallest and most powerful waterfalls in North Africa and feeling the mist hit your skin while the sound of rushing water echoes through the mountains. It was epic. Raw. Humbling. Unforgettable.
Where Are the Ouzoud Waterfalls?
Located in the Atlas Mountains near the village of Tanaghmeilt, the Ouzoud Waterfalls are approximately 150km northeast of Marrakech.
The journey there is part of the magic. As you leave the city behind, the landscape slowly transforms into mountain roads, olive groves and earthy, sun-kissed terrain that feels both ancient and alive.
And then suddenly you hear it before you see it.

This is not a “stand and snap a picture” kind of destination.

The mist rises into the air and, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a rainbow forming at the base. I did and it genuinely felt like a cinematic moment.
You can take a small boat ride right up to the bottom of the falls, which gives you a completely different perspective. The water is loud. Powerful. Alive.
It reminded me of something I always say:
Sometimes you need to stand in front of something greater than you to remember how much more there is to life.
The History & Atmosphere
Ouzoud isn’t just about scenery. It carries depth.
The surrounding area has traditional Berber influences, olive mills and historic energy woven into the landscape. You feel the layers of time here in the architecture, the pathways, the people.
It’s immersive.
This isn’t polished, filtered luxury. It’s earthy, real, textured beauty. And that’s exactly why it left such an imprint on me.
