When Comfort Breeds Complacency, Life Will Push You Forward

I’ve come to a stark realisation—I was never made to work for other people. I’ve tried, time and time again, to make it work. But the last few days have made it crystal clear: when managers are unreasonable, there’s no point in forcing something that isn’t meant for me. Just 24 hours ago, I was content in my role. Then, in an instant, they pulled the rug out from under me, delivering their decision with beaming smiles as if it were nothing. They claim to care, to foster a sense of teamwork, but their actions speak volumes—proving that in their eyes, I will always be beneath them. Their roles, their titles, their authority will always trump my contributions.

After speaking with my mother, I was reminded of something vital: I had become too comfortable. I had lost sight of my true aspirations, the life I desire—the life no job will ever be able to give me.

Yes, I find immense fulfillment in mentoring young people, guiding them toward growth and development. My work has impact, and I value the role I play in shaping their lives. But when the people I work among fail to recognise the value I bring, it forces me to reassess everything.

They displaced me from my office over an issue that had been lingering for six months—one they conveniently ignored until now. And just like that, without hesitation, my colleague and I were uprooted, as if it were inconsequential. There’s something deeply unsettling about people who take pleasure in making others uncomfortable while smiling in their faces, pretending everything is fine. I know exactly why these people behave this way. Call it unconscious bias—I’ll be diving deeper into that in another post.

This entire experience has been a humbling one. No matter how hard you work, no matter how dedicated you are, when you answer to others, they will always find a way to exert their power, just to remind you of their position. So, is it wrong that I no longer want to engage with these people? That I want to distance myself from their inauthenticity? I refuse to tolerate this level of fake any longer.

It’s time to work smarter, not harder—to pour my energy into achieving my own goals, into building my own brand, so that I can finally work for myself. Blogging full-time, living the life I deserve. As my mother wisely reminded me, comfort breeds complacency. And when we get too comfortable, we forget what we were truly meant to do.

I’ve accomplished so much in this space already, but I know there is more for me—bigger, better, and bolder. From this day forward, I refuse to play small. It’s time to take my vision to the next level.
