The New Year brings a great chance to reboot and refresh. And that goes double when it comes to making healthy lifestyle changes. While Christmas is the time for fun and indulgence, January marks the start of a healthier new you. That means making a few tweaks in how you eat, and here are our five steps to achieve a healthier diet in 2020.

  1. Try something new

This is the time to try something new, but you don’t have to make drastic transformations – simple changes in your diet can have a huge impact on your overall health. Commit to eating a wide variety of fresh fruit and veg – think colours of the rainbow – and steer clear of eating the same thing every day.

You can add a meat-free day, snack on nuts and seeds, and cut back on the sugary stuff. Eating a varied diet is one of the best ways of providing your body with all the nutrients it needs.

  1. Drink green tea

Switching to green tea brings a host of health benefits, versus your regular cup of coffee or tea. But does green tea stain your teeth? Well, we’ll come to that. Back to the health benefits for now, and green tea is full of antioxidants that help you prevent a raft of illnesses and even chronic conditions. On top of that you’ll get a boost in energy, and can even use green tea as part of a healthy weight loss plan.

Back to the original question, ‘does green tea stain your teeth?’ – you can read here to find out all you need to know.

  1. Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated is really important for your overall health. When you’re not hydrated, issues like headaches, fatigue and a lack of concentration can kick in.

Our organs also crave fluids, and water is the best drink you can take on board. You don’t need to flood your system, but regular sipping will make a big difference.

  1. Reduce salt, sugar and fat

Moving onto things that you should avoid. Foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar are definitely something that you want to cut back on. These types of food are not only bad choices when it comes to gaining weight, they can cause a raft of health issues like high cholesterol too.

So, stick to eating cakes, biscuits, fatty meats and sweets only every now and then. A treat won’t hurt, but you certainly don’t want to include them as a regular part of your diet.

  1. Cook your own meals

Cooking is a great way of unwinding, and the more skilled you are, the more varied a diet you’ll be able to eat. Also, when you’re preparing your own meals, you’ve got complete control of what’s going into them, which means you can control salt, sugar and fat intake.

Whether you’re a beginner or an accomplished cook, learning new dishes and techniques can really help you.

Follow our steps to create a healthier diet in 2020 and look forward to a healthier you!

Why Strength is the Real Key to Longevity

hen we are trying to find the essential ways of looking after our health we can spend a lot of time digging deep into the right diet habits and approaches that are considered gospel. The biggest problem is that when we are chasing the latest fads, thinking it’s the key to longevity, we are neglecting our own body in the process. We can’t do anything about our genetics, and apart from moving to another climate, there is very little we can do about our environment. When it comes to lifestyle, there are so many factors, but here are two key approaches that we should all think about when it comes to longevity that focus on one key thing: strength.
