I really wanted to review this affordable eatery before the year was up as I had been invited to review Galgorm Spa and Resort for In-spire LS Magazine . However, on the last day of our visit, we got seriously hungry and revisited the restaurant Gillies. The major highlight of Galgorm was the fact that it had 3 different places to eat; each one ranged in the type of food it sold and it affordability. We had already sampled one of the best breakfasts I have ever tasted at Gillies but returned because they were reasonably priced, the food was tasty and the customer service was to a good standard.

I’m not sure about any of you, but I tend to order much more food than necessary when I’m hungry. They say you should never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach and eating out is no exception!

Syianne and I (my co-editor) opted for their hearty beef burger; made with 100% beef may I add, chunky chips and onion rings. The food was AMAZING (see that I wrote amazing in CAPS!). The key reason why it tasted so good was the fact that the beef was well done but was still full of flavour and the chips were massive and hand cut and home made. For my starter (which I shouldn’t have ordered because I was so stuffed!) I went for the half rack of ribs (I promise 2018 will be the year that I give up pork!, I promise…. no swine!)

The best part about Gillies was the home away from home feel. The tartan and dark oak decoration made it cosy and there were many families eating in there which further demonstrated the fact the eatery was described as being family friendly.

In total I paid £30 which was two main meals, two starters and two drinks. The portion sizes were wicked too and although I struggled to finish the meal, I made my self eat both because you honestly can’t go about wasting food; it just wouldn’t be right.

My full review on In-spire LS Magazine shares step by step why if you’re ever in Belfast, you need to make sure you book a stay at Ireland’s finest spa and hotel resort and while you’re there tuck into some top notch and affordable food at Gillies.
