My Trip to Malta Was The MAKING OF ME

Posted on

Greetings you beautiful souls you!

It’s been a while I know, but from my last life update post, I’ve been as busy now as I’ve ever been. So many people found lockdown to be a stressful experience but I for one cannot say the same and for that I am hugely grateful.

I will be writing an update post on what I’ve been doing in lockdown part two as there have been quite a few life changing moments.

During this time, I’ve also been looking through all the images on my phone and reminiscing about my last holiday to Malta.

I haven’t always had the travel bug; on the contrary whilst many people around me were jetsetting around the world, I never really wanted to.

As strange as that may seem, when I was younger I travelled to the Caribbean to visit family and as I got older, I frequented a number of places in the UK. But overall, I didn’t really have the desire to travel anywhere.

This all changed in 2003 when my mum and I decided to book a flight to Portugal. We had no plan, we didn’t really know what to expect. But for some reason, that was where we chose to go.

The trip was life changing and opened up my eyes to travelling more. To be honest, by 2010 I had launched my online magazine and every penny I earned went into that. So much so, that travel fell to the waste side again. It was only when 2013 came (which and will always be my favourite year – for many reasons) that I travelled again. That year I went to Spain twice, to the Lake District and to Vienna.

Since then, travelling has become sporadic once more which is why travelling to Malta was such a big deal. I had had a few rough years (I am going to be sharing some of this in upcoming posts) and I really needed to do some soul searching. I had just ended my magazine after 8 years and felt completely lost. I was still trying to get over the breakdown of my relationship and I lacked direction. I wanted my trip to Malta to be the ‘making of me’. I wanted to use the time I was there to really make a plan for my life and to get to know myself again. It was also a great way for my mum and I to spend some time together as I felt like, through the stresses of the magazine, my gran becoming ill with Dementia and my being stalked (again this is for another post!) we had; in some respects, grown apart.

So when I booked the flight to Portugul I was amped! I honestly couldn’t wait to go and explore. Malta was phenomenal, we stayed in San Giljan, a beautiful and small part of Malta and we chose to stay in the hotel Cavalieri, a small but very clean and friendly hotel. It was different because it was an art hotel; which meant that it used the venue to showcase the work of local artists.

Everything I had set out to do there, I did. I meditated, went for long walks, sat in the pool, sunbathed, ate some beautiful food and started to set a new course for my life. By the time, my trip had come to a close I knew I wanted to focus on launching my own life coaching brand for women and that is just what I did. Together I launched this amazing brand with my mum and ultimately changed the course of my life forever.

I didn’t write about Malta at the time of going because I was busy fronting as a wannabe fashion blogger. (and although you may see a few occasional fashion posts) I knew, I wanted to do more than be that and now I have found my true calling and for that, I am truly, truly thankful.

So,

Because I have a ton of images in my phone that I want to delete so I can focus on creating new travel memories (from next year cause chile I ain’t getting on no plane this year!) here is a truckload of some really dope pictures from my trip.

XOXO
