Anyone who knows me well recognises that my favourite place in London in Greenwich. I’m obviously biased as I attended university around that area. But, saying that I honestly love everything about the place from the people, to the markets, the beautiful Greenwich Park and other buildings as well as the diverse clothing stores and eateries located in the area.
Saying that, I have never actually tried out every eatery in the area which is crazy seeing how much time I spend around there. Having met up with one of my friends for a catch up and choosing the most obvious location. Instead of fine dining (basically something quite expensive and fancy) I really felt for a proper burger.
Now, GBK is normally the place for this, however this time around a reasonably sized burger bar named BYRON caught my eye. Promising to offer ‘Proper Burgers’ I couldn’t help but go inside.
I love ‘Diner’ themed decor and BYRON is designed to look as such. The leather interior seating booths and low level lighting really helped to set the scene.
Having a quick figit on my phone I decided to go onto the BYRON website to find out more about the brand. After all, unless you go to Westfield’s or up Central London, you are pretty hard pressed to find an ‘authentic’ seeming burger bar with the ‘Americanised’ features.
Interestingly, the creator Tom started Byron in 2007 after a long stint in the US eating… you guessed it; a truck load of burgers. He saw a niche (which always helps) and the brand was born. (How I love a success story)
So after those details were pushed aside, I then proceeded to order everything fatty on the menu. The macaroni cheese was to die for; seriously it was amazing. I would have ordered more, had I had the space or time. The portion was just the right size because had it been bigger I honestly wouldn’t have been able to breath!
I then proceeded to order a massive hamburger which isn’t done any real justice by this picture as it was huge! I ordered fries which I must say was the only disappointing was the amount of fries you got. This was tiny; i’d say it was just slightly bigger than the regular fries you get from McDonald’s. I have well and truly grown out of Happy Meals so was far from impressed. However, they still tasted good.
The hot chocolate was creamy and one quickly led to another. To be completely frank, I’m surprised I could stand up after. All of this was washed down by glasses of coke. Classy.
I’m definitely going back but not until I get my fitness plan in check!
