How Belgium Reminded Me Why I Love to Travel | My Getaway with Signature Dreams Events

There is something refreshing about stepping away from your everyday routine and giving yourself permission to experience somewhere new. My recent trip to Belgium offered exactly that: a change of scenery, an opportunity to explore, and a weekend filled with culture, food, fashion and memorable experiences.

Travelling with Signature Dreams Events, I joined a coach trip to Antwerp for a short European getaway. From the moment the journey began, I was looking forward to discovering more of a city I had heard so much about but had not yet experienced for myself.

Antwerp is widely recognised for its impressive architecture, thriving fashion scene, historic streets and, of course, its famous Belgian waffles and chocolate. It is a destination that manages to feel elegant and culturally rich while remaining relaxed enough for a laid-back city break.

Arriving in Antwerp

Travelling by coach made the journey feel like part of the experience. Rather than rushing through an airport, we were able to settle in, take in the changing scenery and gradually make our way towards Belgium.

Once we arrived, I was immediately struck by Antwerp’s character. The city blends old-world European charm with a modern, creative energy. Beautiful historic buildings sit alongside contemporary shops, restaurants and stylish cafés, creating a destination that feels both timeless and current.

There was plenty to see, and although this was a relatively short trip, I wanted to make the most of the time available.

Exploring the City

One of the highlights of the weekend was simply walking through Antwerp and taking in the surroundings.

The historic streets are filled with detailed architecture, cobbled pathways and grand buildings that immediately encourage you to slow down and look around. Antwerp is the type of city where even an unplanned walk can lead you somewhere interesting.

There were opportunities to browse the shops, explore the local area and enjoy some of the treats Belgium is best known for. Naturally, no visit would have felt complete without trying a Belgian waffle.

Warm, sweet and freshly made, it was a simple but essential part of the experience. Food is often one of my favourite ways to connect with a destination, and enjoying a waffle while exploring the city felt like a small but satisfying travel moment.

A Stay at Crowne Plaza Antwerp

During the trip, we stayed at Crowne Plaza Antwerp, which offered a comfortable base for the weekend.

After travelling and spending time exploring the city, it was good to have somewhere to return to, refresh and prepare for the evening’s activities. The hotel also hosted the group’s Dinner and Dance, making it a central part of the overall experience.

I will be sharing a separate review of the hotel, including my thoughts on the accommodation, facilities and location, later in this Belgium series.

Dinner, Dancing and Dressing for the Occasion

The Dinner and Dance was one of the main organised events of the weekend.

The evening featured sunset-inspired décor, a three-course meal, music from a live DJ and an opportunity for everyone to dress up and enjoy the atmosphere.

I wore a bold red dress paired with my YSL quilted bag, which felt perfectly suited to the theme. I always enjoy the opportunity to dress for an occasion, and the evening gave me the chance to add my own sense of style to the experience.

A great deal of effort had clearly gone into creating the event, from the table arrangements and decorations to the food and entertainment. It brought a celebratory element to the trip and offered a pleasant way to end a full day in Antwerp.

My Thoughts on the Experience

This Belgium getaway reminded me that a worthwhile travel experience does not always require a long-haul flight or an extended itinerary.

Antwerp is close enough to the UK for a short break but different enough to offer a genuine change of pace. It gave me the opportunity to explore somewhere new, enjoy local food, dress up for a special evening and gather plenty of inspiration for future travel content.

As with any group trip, the experience was shaped by the effort I made to enjoy each part of it. I approached the weekend with the intention of exploring, creating content and making the most of the itinerary, and that allowed me to come away with moments that I genuinely appreciated.

What to Expect from My Belgium Series

Over the coming posts, I will be sharing more from the trip, including a closer look at exploring Antwerp, my stay at Crowne Plaza Antwerp, the dining experiences at ANNA, and the Dinner and Dance evening.

I will also be sharing practical thoughts for anyone considering Antwerp for their next European city break.

Belgium may not always be the first destination that comes to mind when planning a getaway, but Antwerp has history, style, culture, food and plenty of character. For anyone looking for an accessible European escape, it is certainly a city worth considering.

This is only the beginning of my Belgium Slaycation Diaries.
