How to Protect Your Energy as the Seasons Change

As the seasons shift and the days get shorter, it’s not just our wardrobes that need adjusting; our energy does too. I don’t know about you but as this time of the year comes around I have a huge desire to make changes and be apart of creating some major shifts.

Autumn and winter bring slower, more reflective vibes, but they can also feel heavy, emotional, or draining if we’re not intentional. Between the darker mornings, busy schedules, and social noise, it’s easy to find yourself running on empty without realising it.

That’s why learning how to protect your energy during seasonal transitions is so important. It’s about slowing down, tuning in, and making sure you’re giving your time and attention to the things (and people) that truly serve your peace.

Here’s how I stay balanced, grounded, and glowing as the seasons change.

I. I listen to my Body’s New Rhythm

I bet you never realised that as the seasons shift, so does your natural rhythm. You might crave more rest, warm foods, or quiet time and that’s completely normal. Instead of pushing through fatigue or overloading your schedule, honour your energy levels. Slow mornings, early nights, and comfort meals aren’t signs of laziness; they’re signs of alignment.

Key Tip: Swap your iced coffees for herbal teas- some of my key favourites are Green Tea, Nettle, Soursop and Lemon and Ginger (all have fantastic healing properties and I will share a more detailed, up-to-date review of these favourites for you soon) take gentle walks instead of intense workouts- I recently purchased a walking machine for the days when I am too tired to venture outside and it’s a gamechanger!) and start your mornings with light stretching or journaling. (If you have a hectic morning and can’t seem to fit journaling in-take 5 minutes before the end of the day to write down your reflections of the day.)

2. Set Clear Boundaries Around Your Time

Your energy is precious, treat it like currency. Not everyone is entitled to your time- especially if you’re going through something and those people do not value or show that they care. Limit your time with these people. You deserve the very best. As the year winds down, it’s easy to say “yes” to too much. But not every invite, project, or conversation deserves access to you. Protecting your energy means creating space for rest without guilt. If something or someone drains you more than it fills you, it’s okay to step back.
Key Tip: Create “non-negotiable rest days.” Use them to unplug, read, recharge, or simply be.

3. Curate Your Environment

Your surroundings have a direct impact on your energy. As the weather cools and the light days turn to dark nights, turn your home into a sanctuary, a space that feels calm, cosy, and inspiring. Look for more cushions and homeware, make your environment pull for you. (I have fairy lights above my bed, paired with rain sounds on a those dark, dreary nights).
Key Tip: Think…

  • Soft lighting and candles
  • Decluttered spaces
  • Calming playlists or scent diffusers
  • A cosy reading corner or workspace refresh

When your environment supports your peace, your energy naturally replenishes.

4. Nourish Your Mind and Body

Seasonal changes can affect mood, focus, and immunity so nourish yourself from the inside out.

This doesn’t have to be complicated:

  • Eat warm, grounding meals (soups, stews, oats)- I am currently obsessed with my mums soups at the moment; after a period of sickness and low immunity, they brought me back to my best.
  • Stay hydrated even when it’s cold- drinking as much mineral water is essential during this time of year; for extra health benefits, squeeze lemon or lime into the water.
  • Take Vitamin D or spend time in natural light- or both because if you’re able to access some Autumn/Winter sun abroad- do!
  • Move your body gently. Yoga, walks, or stretching are wonderful- I am getting myself ready to restart a 10 minute yoga video I used to do several years ago. Now more than ever (now I am in my 40’s- it’s essential that I begin prioritising stretching.

Remember, your body mirrors how you treat it. Treat it like someone you love.

5. Guard Your Digital Space

Energy leaks happen online too.
As we scroll through endless content, we absorb other people’s moods, opinions, and chaos and that can cloud our own energy. With all of the continual stories around war, racism and other world events, things can become very consuming – try your best to take much needed time away.
Key Tip: Unfollow or mute accounts that make you feel heavy, drained, or “less than.” Start or end your day offline, even for 30 minutes to allow space to reconnect with your own thoughts. Digital detox = instant energy upgrade.

6. Reconnect with Your Inner Calm

Seasonal transitions are nature’s reminder to slow down and go inward. Take this time to journal, meditate, or simply reflect on where you are and what you want to call in next. I have been very reflective of late. Taking time to reconnect with myself and to get clear on what I want and where I am headed. The last decade has been heavy, from overcoming stalking, verbal abuse and bullying I have come out with a lot of ground work to cover but I am ready to take on this journey. Taking some evenings just to reconnect with myself and just grab those small moments of me and time and calm has been essential for my overall healing and I truly recommend that no matter what, you take time to get back in touch with yourself.
Key Tip: Ask yourself:

  • What am I ready to release?
  • What do I need more of in this next season?
  • Who do I want to be by the time spring arrives?

Protecting your energy isn’t just about saying no, it’s about saying yes to peace, alignment, and joy.

Final Word: You Deserve to Feel Grounded and Glowing

As the world cools down, you have permission to do the same. This season, move slower, rest deeper, and protect your energy like it’s your most valuable asset, because it is.

You can’t pour from an empty cup, babe so fill yours with warmth, stillness, and love.
